Helmut Marko explained why Red Bull did not swap Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez at the end of the sprint in Sao Paulo.
In the course of the 24-round Saturday race Verstappen on tires, the medium fell from first place to fourth, and Perez managed to climb only to fifth position on the soft. At the end of the sprint, the Mexican asked the team about a possible exchange of positions, but did not receive a positive answer.
Red Bull adviser explained why the team did not castling.
Perez didn`t get close enough to Verstappen at the end of the race for us to think about exchanging positions, there was simply no fight between them.
Today we made a mistake with medium tires. But our main weakness is the second sector of the track. Sometimes we lost a second per lap there and were generally not fast enough. There is hard work ahead, you can`t change everything at once, so it`s unlikely that something will change dramatically for us tomorrow.
We must admit: Mercedes is strong. But we`ll see what can be done in the race.
We are doing something wrong. Or competitors do it better. Verstappen`s front tires were overheating, Perez wasn`t even close to Hamilton`s pace, and his tires were also worn out towards the end of the sprint. A lot of things didn`t go the way we imagined, " Marco said.
