Future Alpha Tauri driver Nick de Vries said goodbye to the Mercedes team, which he will leave at the end of the season.
De Vries spent Friday practice for Mercedes at the stage in Mexico City - teams this season are required to provide two sessions to pilots with youth status:
I can only say the following about Mercedes: Thank you for three great years, for the opportunities provided, I wish you all the best. That`s all. In the end, we have worked quite intensively for these three years officially - and four, if not quite officially. The team fought for victory in the championship, we worked together to improve the car. And it went on for quite some time. So yes, the moment of parting with the team came out emotional.
De Vries admitted that Mercedes` decision to put him behind the wheel of the car in practice was a little surprising, given that his departure to Alpha Tauri next year has been known for quite some time:
Yes it`s true. On the other hand, it was me who was the most logical, safe option for Mercedes. The team does not want to put behind the wheel of the first pilot who comes across to work an hour on the track, just as you do not want something to go wrong in the work of the team because of this.
