George Russell believes that Mercedes made a mistake with the strategy for the Grand Prix of Mexico.


Russell finished fourth after starting second, behind teammate Lewis Hamilton in the opening corners. Both Mercedes drivers used a hard-medium strategy, while Red Bull and Ferrari drivers used a soft-medium strategy.


In the first turn, I was careful in the fight against Lewis on the inside, and in the end it cost me two positions. If I had kept second place, I would have finished on the podium.


We need to understand why Red Bull and Ferrari decided to start on software and turned out to be right, but we were not. Hard could not be included, - said the Briton in an interview with Viaplay.


Russell also noted the positive aspects:


I am very proud of the team`s work. Red Bull are still in their league, but compared to Ferrari, our pace is impressive.
