Igor Larionov shared his thoughts on whether the KHL can become a business and make a profit.





- Today there are four or five players in Torpedo who have reached a new level. The question is that after the end of the season there will be clubs predicted by watch live football games that want to buy them.

- I absolutely agree. These are the realities of our life in the KHL. On the other hand, you understand that the work has been done, the guys have grown up. And other guys will come to this place.


It`s just time to start from scratch. Instead of building, sculpting a team gradually, look at positions, human qualities, character, game intelligence. . . And then you can set big tasks. If a player wants to go for money to another team - for God`s sake. In this regard, you can earn.


But we are talking about earning, like in North America. 20 thousand at matches, a full stadium. Beer flows like water, paraphernalia is sold for a lot of money, parking is crazy, prices, sponsors on board, food, sausages, popcorn - it all goes to the team`s piggy bank.


I don`t want to offend anyone: you come to the cities of our country where hockey is popular, and you see [the arena] one third filled with spectators. But you fly there for nine hours to play hockey - in Vladivostok and Khabarovsk. And there are two thousand people in the stands. Well, what`s the point?


You spent a crazy amount of money to fly there. Seven hours time difference. It is clear that this is a social project, but some things need to be tightened up, done right.


We cannot stand still, live on previous merits, previous memories.


We can`t bring people together on July 1st or 15th [for pre-season] to train them. We pay a lot of money to these guys - we have to train ourselves.


Should collect them, most likely, on September 5th. Children go to school, parents finish their holidays - and we start playing the season, which lasts, for example, until the end of May, the beginning of June.
