Mark Hughes worries about Frederic Vasseur`s future at Ferrari.
Vasser left Sauber (Alfa Romeo) and will become the head of the Scuderia. The position was previously held by Mattia Binotto. Frederik`s transfer provoked the early departure of Andreas Seidl from McLaren to Sauber, and the place of team leader from Woking went to Andrea Stella.
The Race columnist and tech expert breaks down the transitions.
Excellent choice by Sauber, who stole Seidl from McLaren. He is a calm and purposeful specialist who gets along well with people. Given his experience with Porsche and BMW, Seidl will be a great fit for Audi when it buys out the team.
McLaren, in turn, acted absolutely logically and promoted Stella, a not-in-the-clouds and very smart engineer who had a chance to shine in a higher position.
I`m afraid Vasser will face exactly the same problems as his predecessor Mattia Binotto. Perhaps even more so, since his position as executive and general manager entails less autonomy compared to Binotto, who was executive and managing director.
I hope I`m wrong because Freddie is a good guy and it`s important for F1 that Ferrari is in the fight. Difficulties will not necessarily appear in the short term, since the technical program should remain intact, and it is likely to be very fruitful. My concern is whether he can handle the underlying issues that affect the team`s culture, which is determined from the top, " Hughes wrote.
